PET / CT Scan

Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
Computed Tomography (CT) Scan

Positron Emission Tomography–Computed Tomography (PET-CT) is an advanced imaging technique that combines two scans into one:

  • PET shows metabolic activity, highlighting areas where cancer cells are active.

  • CT provides detailed anatomical images of the body.

Together, PET-CT allows doctors to detect cancer earlier, locate tumours precisely, and assess whether the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

PET-CT is also valuable for treatment planning, helping specialists decide the best approach for surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy. During and after treatment, PET-CT can monitor the effectiveness of therapy and detect any recurrence.

What a PET-CT Scan Helps With

  • Detects cancer early, even before symptoms appear

  • Shows tumour activity and exact location

  • Helps stage cancer and identify spread

  • Guides treatment planning and therapy decisions

  • Monitors response to treatment

  • Detects recurrence or residual disease

Common Cancers Assessed with PET-CT

  • Lung, liver, and pancreatic cancers

  • Lymphomas and blood cancers

  • Colorectal and gastrointestinal cancers

  • Head, neck, and brain cancers

  • Breast and prostate cancers

What to Expect During a PET-CT Scan

  • The scan usually takes 30–60 minutes

  • A small amount of radioactive tracer is injected to highlight active cells

  • You lie still on the scanner table during the imaging process

  • The scan is painless and minimally invasive

  • Our team ensures your comfort and communicates throughout

Safety and Suitability

PET-CT is generally safe. The radioactive tracer used is short-acting and low-dose. However, it may not be suitable for:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women (unless approved by the doctor)

  • Patients with severe allergies to the tracer (rare)
